At a time when the Tamils of Eelam are faced with the question of who was responsible for their plight following their subjugation by the Sri Lankan Army, the Tamil Diaspora is engaged in a protracted infighting.
The Tamils of Eelam having literally been driven to the streets away from their homes as a result of the Military defeat of the LTTE are unable to accept the reality of abject poverty and state of desolateness the war has produced.
Every Tamil there is aware that dissensions and internal divisions within them have caused this defeat. The Tamils every where in General believe that their inability to unite is the root cause of this defeat.Every peace loving Tamil is posed with the question that, even after this diastrous defeat would the Tamils as a race ever correct itself and unitedly stand aloft.
At this critical stage of our history, the ruling elite is keen on exploiting all the resources in land, sea and commenced so called devlopment plans only to deny all economical openings to the Tamils condemning them to abject poverty and to a state of permanent begger hood.
It would not be far from the truth if one says the Sinhala chauvianism is carrying out a war sans weapons and arms on the Tamils living there. Without concious of this silent war, long time refugees from abroad visiting there shamelessly on their Return carry on a foolish propoganda saying everything there is normal.
This phenomena of foolish Propaganda is viewed as a result of glorification of the armed struggle in stead of a right political learning and a knowledge of democratic principles. Also the Sri Lankan Government has greatly trusted and has succeeded in getting a great deal of free Propaganda by the Tamil Diaspora Holiday makers.
Under a well publicised re settlement plan , the sufferings of those in jails and un-identified detention camps, abductions, tortures and extra judicial killings are shrouded into oblivion.
People are subjected to direct and indirect surveilance by the state security Intelligence services and in a psychological Trauma leading to various mental disorders. In a perpetual state of mental pressure and as a way of escapism the people there provide false Information that give a different picture of the actual state in vogue.
Also there is no end to the tears that is shed in loving memory of thier sons and daughters slain in the fight for freedom and is a pity that the Tigers overseas barely pay any heed to their tears or respcct their Marteyed Fighters. At the last Maveerar Day barely six months after the Military defeat, the LTTE in Switzerland made a mockery of the supposedly day of honour and delivered as many as four speeches whereas Mr.V.Prabakaran deliver only one covering the whole preceding year. The public was left in confusion as to which of tue four speeches was the official one.
Some expressed dissatisfaction as Mr.Prabakaran was not remembered as a Martyer and was totally ignored, a fact Not easy to stomach. Instead of a Maveerar Day celeberation of this art, it is far better Not to have any at all.
All Maveerar resting tombs in Eelam have been razed to ground by the Forces and the famous one at Kopay is now the Head Quarters of tue 51st Divisaion. In such a context the people there expect a full honour by the Tamil Diaspora but that expectation is far from reality.
The Sri Lankan Government is sure to prevent tue Maveerar Day events abroad and the rivalry weithin the LTTE is making things easy for the Government. Just as it did in the attack on the Cricket Team in Pakistan and put the blame on the LTTE, it would in no time start a flare up at the coming Maveerar Day Celeberations and put the LTTE with all the blame. This will be the final blow on the LTTE overseas which could completely wipe out all its activities for ever.
It would may well be prudent for the governments to deny permission to celeberate the Maaveerar Day that would be a potential threat to peace, law and order.
We must remember that the Maaveerar paid their live Not in their persuit of mundane pleasures but in through thick and thin emraced deaths only in tue hope to gain their ideal Independant Tamil Eelam. It is unthinkable that such utmost selfless sacrifices are remembered with Koththu Rotti sales and carnival like fun and frolics. Let us remember them in a more Fitting and Respectful manner than we have witnessed last year. Before you trample their thresh hold cleanse your feet and heart thoroughly so that they may be remembered in Reverence.
